Announcement of the 34th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Breast Cancer Society
We are pleased to announce that the 34th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Breast Cancer Society will be held from Thursday, June 25 to Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Kyoto International Conference Center. It is a great honor for me to serve as the President of this meeting.
Breast cancer care and research are advancing at an unprecedented pace. Groundbreaking technologies and evolving clinical insights are reshaping every aspect of diagnosis and treatment. As I write this message in the spring of 2025, we are already witnessing a paradigm shift in the surgical management of axillary lymph nodes.
Under the theme, “Think Globally, Act Locally,” this annual meeting aims to provide a platform for collective reflection on the real-world care of our patients, while exploring emerging global trends and strengthening practical initiatives in our local communities.
The year 2026 also marks the 15th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Based in Fukushima—an area deeply impacted by the earthquake and the subsequent nuclear disaster—we will host a special panel exhibition to share the current state of Fukushima, 15 years on.
Fukushima and Kyoto share a meaningful historical bond. In the closing years of the Edo period, the Aizu Domain—now part of Fukushima Prefecture—played a crucial role in safeguarding Kyoto. Soldiers of the domain served the city with loyalty and honor, and their spirit continues to live on in the people of Aizu. Hosting the meeting in Kyoto, a city where tradition and innovation thrive in harmony, provides the perfect setting for rich academic exchange and shared inspiration.
We look forward to advancing the field of breast cancer care through in-depth discussions, presentations of cutting-edge research, and the exchange of diverse perspectives among leading experts from Japan and around the world.
We warmly invite you to join us in Kyoto and look forward to welcoming many of you to this important gathering.
